Just a few months back, the then captain Brian Charles Lara delivered speeches on his team winning the World Cup. Many pundits thought that the team from the Caribbean was one of the dark horses and had a chance of claimining hands on Cricket’s biggest tournament. West Indies were out of the World Cup owing to zero wins in the super eights and as an icing on a cake, Lara retired from International cricket as well. In the recently concluded test series in England, West Indies have been beaten black and blue and have suffered to a 3-0 loss in a 4 match test series. Chanderpaul was the only silver lining but cricket is strictly a team game. Individuals don’t a good chance of winning test matches.
The once giants are soon becoming minnows and a laugh stock of the cricketing World. The talent in the Carribbean seems to have been exhausted as youth have started to prefer American sports like basketball over cricket. Maybe this is the end of an era that started at the top of the Everest and have soon reached the depths of the sea. Just like nature where the old beings die and new are born; West Indies cricket is on it’s final march. Some new talented teams like Bangladesh and Ireland have cropped up; hope they stay afloat and improvize.
